Meet the lovely Freya, the newest member of our doll family. At 15cm tall she is 1/12th scale and is now patiently waiting for the rest of her family and a house for Christmas😬

Ive been wanting to make dolls house dolls for a while, and I have finally come up with a pattern which allows me to make them relatively quickly and simply. She has moveable arms and legs as well as removable clothing.

I’m finishing off the PDF pattern with instructions for a family of dolls along with some patterns for basic clothing items like the ones Freya is wearing which I am hopeful to have in my store ready with the holiday guides early November.

Doll making is actually a great joy for me and making this one has been wonderful! She is complete with a little felt heart stuffed into her body and has cost a fraction of what a family of dolls would have cost to buy.

Hole punched autumn leaf art 🍁

For a while I have been wanting to decorate this little wooden box which houses our felt weather pieces for the seasonal table. I’ve been stuck what to do, but after collecting some leaves today on a little walk myself and the little one set to work.

Inspired by the most beautiful colours we found we punched lots of leafy hearts from and then I stuck them to the box with modge podge, finishing with a top coat.

Hole punching was a lovely quiet activity for the little one she enjoyed it so much, and we talked about the colours and the hearts, we talked about feelings and about the changing of the seasons.

I need to add another couple of coats when dry, but I wanted to share now as they look so beautiful so you can take advantage of the leaves whilst you can! In the past when I have used modge podge over leaves they have dulled a little but kept their colour, so we shall see how this fares, but either way it will be as lovely to watch the transformation of this box as it is the seasons, and I love these collaborative crafts with the little one where we help each other and she sees me take care in making something with her.

Autumn, there is something so nourishing about it, it’s a nourishing of a different kind than what we have been used to in spring and summer. Those lighter foods full of sunshine are replaced with fatty foraged foods, tree nuts, the last of the berries for jams and chutneys, pumpkins for pies and stews. Comfort food.

The bright Sunny colours of the summer are replaced with muted tones of oranges, yellows and browns, the greens seem to go to sleep somehow. Restful colour.

Everything is slowing down, yet nature the weather is picking up….wind, rain, a wintery horizon, forcing us to stop, to eat those comfort foods, to slow and rest, to reflect, to look inward.

I love this time of year and we have started it off with my new Waldorf magic guide looking at wind and rain. The new guide is now In my shop for those who like to purchase individually, a day late with all the covid no school craziness going on at home but it’s finally there!

Today we made a hat for our fill for the story, there is a felt hat in the pack, but I thought o would give a felt and wool twist to a hat which was in the winter guides (which will be In my shop next month)

🍁Cut a strip of felt to the circumference of your dolls head

🍁 Sew it up, then cut lengths of wool around 6x the width of the felt strip

🍁 Double over each strip then pass it around the felt strip (see images)

🍁 Continue with the rest until your band is full.

🍁Knot a piece of wool around the hat where the base of the ‘Bobble’ would be

🍁Trim to shape.

And that’s it done! A great easy make for your seasonal table dolls

Enjoy the month everybody
