Day trip to the Lake District

Picnicking under Beatrix Potters apple tree in the drizzly Cumbrian weather.
We had a lovely trip to Hill Top Farm yesterday which ended in perfect timing as we opened the gate to leave sheep were being herded into an adjacent field. Beatrix Potter bought Hill Top and turned her life from writer and artist to farmer , she left over 4000 acres and 15 farms to the national trust when she died in 1943, which has no doubt preserved the Lakeland landscape and preserved agricultural living and working in the area in a way seldom replicated elsewhere. I don’t think it’s a coincidence this is one of the most beautiful areas of England to visit.
We then made a visit to Wray Castle and a boat ride over to Ambleside. Which the little one absolutely loved. Enjoying the last week of the holidays with my children and husband (who has taken the week off work) we have another week next week, but I really want to take that week to start to get into a rhythm of some sort ready for back to school.
Wishing you all a lovely week! Do you have any favourite countryside spots you love to visit?
