Wool Ghosties

“I saw a ghost,

He saw me too,

I waved at him,

But he said BOO” 👻

Sometimes it’s the simplest crafts that are the most satisfying and nourishing. We are having a slow morning here with the little one being awake half the night and so I saw it as the perfect opportunity to make some ghosts from wool roving to go with our Halloween display inspired by the traditional roving fairies we associate with Waldorf the world over (we tend to have a festival display alongside our traditional seasonal table).

To make these ghosts yourself you will need:

• 1 x large wooden bead or felt ball

• White wool roving

• Black beads or you can use pen or roving

• A needle, thread and some scissors

• Some little hands to help

To make:

• Pull long tufts of roving between your thumb and forefinger, (4 per ghost) and lay them as to crosses on top of one another to make a star. The little one particularly enjoyed doing this.

• Place your bead or wool ball in the centre turn upside down and whilst holding the bead and roving in one hand, smooth down and over to create a ghostly shape.

• Stitch on two beads for the eyes

• pass a long thread through the top of the head through the wooden bead inside and then back up to the side of that through the top of the head again, knot to form a loop and hang.

I hope you enjoy making some ghostly friends for your home.

(It might look like I am setting fire to my ghosties, camera perspective is an odd thing, rest assured I am not so don’t try it at home 😂)
