Our Haft-Sin ready for Nowruz, we will add some of the dried fruits and pudding tomorrow. The Sabzeh (Wheatgrass) I forgot to sow early enough, but by Sunday (when we celebrate with the older two children) it will be a little taller. We will then keep this table for Easter as it transforms over the next week into our butterfly garden (using the beautiful kit from @my____fable)

As this is a table for the little one we have replaced the Shahnameh with a book of Spring by Gerda Muller. Nowruz, Waldorf style hehe. I cannot wait until she is older to share the Shahnameh with her.

I’ve really enjoyed creating our Haft-Sin table there is something so magical about it and deeply moving and symbolic about the changing of the season, a year anew and all the hope and joy that comes with looking forward.

Look forward we shall! Always!

Yesterday evening myself and the children crafted some Hyacinth for our Nowruz table from some crepe paper and a dowel. I’ve seen so many prettt handmade paper hyacinth which I want to attempt myself if I have time but these ones are always great for children to get involved with and are great for developing hand eye coordination and motor skills.

This is such an easy and relatively quick craft to do once you get in the swing of it.

I recommend crepe paper for this craft as it has a nice texture but you can use any.

First you need some Dowel rods or sticks. I have 6mm dowels.

✂️ Cut your crepe paper into rectangles and then cut it into a ‘fringe’.

Roll the strips of the fringe around your dowel and then glue the dowel for your stem and the bottom uncut edge of the rolled fringe.

Stick to your dowel to curl them, once curled starting at the top (hiding the dowel) twist your paper strip around and around (keeping it all close together) and down the dowel until you reach the end of the strip, you should ensure the curls are facing outward.

We used three rectangles for each flower and then cut some leaf shapes from green crepe paper. You can wrap the dowel in green paper but we didn’t have enough so we will probably paint them with a little watercolour.

We have done Lilac and white but you could do an array of pretty colours.

Warm hues of wood just fills my soul with joy. When I spend time in this room I feel so nourished.

We’ve lived for a few months now with a monstrosity of a white desk pulled together from old IKEA storage units and a temporary desk top in the playroom, and it’s bothered me....it just felt out of place. The whole room felt disjointed.

Funny that it never occurred to me to swap a mid venture bureau we have in the living room over with the desk and give the desk a home there....

Well last night we switched them over, the desk now lives in the living room - which still stresses me out as I cannot stand looking at wires and computers (am I the only one?) but it’s much better placed there and out of the playroom.

Peace and calm has been restored. Some fresh flowers brought in this morning to bring spring joy and cheer!
