Our Nowruz preparations have started. Today we sown our wheatgrass seeds in the soil and warmed the earth with candles (and tried to catch the smoke see the little sweet video). A little late as I forgot over the weekend with work and Mother’s Day but we will still see it grow somewhat for Nowruz. 🌱

Nowruz is the Persian New Year Celebrated around the time of the Spring Equinox, (my husband is half Iranian for those wondering why we are celebrating) this year it’s the 20th March. For the new year we will be setting up a traditional ‘Haft Sin’.

“Haft-sin or Haft-seen (Persian: هفت‌سین‎) is an arrangement of seven symbolic items whose names start with the letter "س" pronounced as "seen" the 15th letter in the Persian alphabet; haft (هفت) is Persian for seven. (Wikipedia)

I have a few crafts what we will be getting on with this week for our little Nowruz celebration - all whilst we watch the wheatgrass or Sabzeh grow - our Sabzeh (one of the seven items) for the table.

Our beautiful wheatgrass which will then remain on the table will form part of our beautiful butterfly garden as we approach Easter. Two beautiful celebrations united by nature and growth!

I can’t wait to share more about our Haft Sin and our lovely crafts which you can adapt for your home this spring.

Peace and love

Edit: I forgot to add our beautiful butterfly garden is the beautiful kit from @my____fable 🦋

This mornings weather has been horrendous. Rain, high winds and hail you name it it’s said hello, but no need to worry, we stayed inside warm and cosy and crafted some lovely spring birds using the template from my March Waldorf Magic Pack, the birds have been busy flitting about from tree to tree and we have Robins making a nest in our ivy, so they have naturally been the topic of much conversation over the past couple of weeks.

The little one enjoyed painting the birds (she painted two templates to make one bird), she wasn’t really up for wrapping the wool to make some Pom Pom bodies so I got on with that whilst she watched me for a while and then played. TIP If your little one wants to help and you want them to feel the sense of achievement in finishing knot 5 or six lengths of wool together and pull them round and round in one (great time saver and gets them wrapped 5 or six times as fast)

I think they look rather lovely on our little mobile above the seasonal table. There are wings to the template which I left off as I decided I quite liked them how they were, but I may add them later 🤔I decorated the mobile with a little ivy from the garden and some daffodils.

The sun is starting to make an appearance now so I think we will be off for a walk after lunch! Swipe to see the birds, you could have a go at making them yourself!

“Grow beautiful Daffodil grow”

The wind and rain was beating against the windows last night and this morning when I woke. Cold wild winds and unforgiving rain enough to blow the spring away 🌬

How lovely it was to have my window transparency from the Waldorf Magic March Guide next to me simply resting in front of my desk lamp in the playroom, a reminder that Spring was still on its way and the magic which was happening all around us.

Creating window transparencies has been one of my favourite things to do as part of my Waldorf Magic Guides they are such fun to design and make. For years I have always loved Tiffany Glass and i feel in some ways they channel that look, the dark strong lines against the luminous back lit colours.

I quite like it here actually, and I think I may keep it here today, for the weather outside is gloomy and dark - having the lamp lit today with this in-front if it adds some spring cheer and magic. 🌼🌱 Happy Thursday to everybody!
