šŸŽƒ šŸž Pumpkin shape granary bread and home made butter. 🧈 Autumn for me is officially the start of soup season. Comforting, warming and easy to throw together. Soup has become a Monday thing in our home for a while and we often use up all the previous weeks vegetables and leftovers from a Sunday for a great meal to ease us into the week. Mondays are also our days to bake in our home rhythm and although largely I have fallen off the wagon over summer with this I am determined to pick it back up. Well we are on a pumpkin theme this month amongst other autumnal things and so I thought it would be great if the little one and I bake some bread in a pumpkin shape and make some homemade butter. I used granary flour for a really filling bread which looks really textured! To make your bread pumpkin shape, simply follow your favourite bread recipe, this is mine https://www.bakingmad.com/recipes/wholemeal-linseed-bread then take 4 long pieces of bakers twine. Cross them over a centre point in a star shape, when you have knocked back your dough and before it’s second prove place the ball on top of this star of twine, loosely tie the twine around it on top to form segments and then cut off the tails. Place a pecan or walnut in the top just to the side of the string and then leave to prove again. Bake as normal and then carefully remove the string. To make butter, fill a jam jar half full with double cream (add a pinch of salt if you wish), place a marble in the jar, close the lid tightly and shake continuously for around 10 minutes. The marble will stop moving and slow down for a while when the cream thickens then all of a sudden will move again and you will be left with a lump of butter and buttermilk. Tip away the buttermilk and then fill the jar with cold water. Slosh around the butter and discard the cloudy water, keep going until the water runs clear. Remove from the jar and press with clean hands to remove any more buttermilk (the butter will spoil if there is any left in) finally roll into a log and roll into grease proof paper and place in the fridge. Remove 30 mins before serving! Fresh bread and butter! Autumn joy! #homebaking #bakingwithchildren #autumnjoy #freshbread #pumpkin
