Queen of the May

🌸👑 Queen of the May 👑🌸
So May is almost upon us and that means it is the month of Mary ‘Queen of the May’. May is one of my favourite months as it’s not only my birthday and my daughters birthday, it holds special memories in my faith, crowning a statue of Our Lady symbolically with blossom, making my first holy communion. The masses, the hymns have such a place in my heart and this month, the height of Spring often feels so full of promise a vision of the fruitful year ahead.
I have been really wanting a statue of Our Lady, but not managed to find one which (a) does not look like it has had dodgy makeup applied (b) is in my price range. So I decided to take some dark wool roving for hair and a piece of blue silk and give the beautiful figure which @atelier_margriet_kraan made for me a little temporary makeover…and I think she looks beautiful!
Lots of non Catholic Christians often are quite bemused by our love of Mary, many confuse our prayers to her as worship. We don’t worship Mary, but rather have a deep respect and love for her. “Let it be to me according to your word” was her response when an Angel broke forth into this world and asked her if she would conceive and bear the child that would be Christ. As a Christian who couldn’t look to that example and be inspired and humbled in our own faith journey? To say yes to God is to take the first step in a journey whereby your life can be lived to its deepest and fullest. As a mother she holds a special role in my journey of faith, she is my ally in motherhood, the perfect example of grace, humility patience and love.
Ive been working on a lovely Marian guide which sadly won’t be ready until mid-May (Thank you Covid) but I will be excited to share that when it’s ready.
Wishing you all a lovely day today!
