Shadow Show

If there is one thing I love about Waldorf Education it’s the sacredness of childhood and play. Everything in this world is so fast paced, the next best thing, the next way of thinking, and yet Waldorf stands still asking us to pause. And slow down for a moment. And look at the marvellous creation of life and beauty in front of us and to not try and mould it, or move it, or question it but to sit with it in reverence and love.

I was so privileged to witness the beauty of childhood the other night as I finished cleaning and headed into a surprisingly dark living room! My 10yo was sat on the fireplace (it’s electric for you safety nerds out there 😆) with a torch behind her in the middle of a full on shadow show for the little one.

The awe and wonder present in this simple and magical idea had filled the room, the little one enthralled with what was going on! The funny thing was was how my daughter integrated things like door handles, trying to open the door with her shadowy fingers - to much amusement of the little one.

This weekend I invite you all to embrace the darkness of the year get a torch or a lamp out and put on a shadow show of your own - it could be a one man show or a family extravaganza! I’d love to see the fun if you can capture it!

Wishing you all the most amazing weekend. Happy Friday friends
