The whole unfiltered blog

Hello June 🐝 ☀️

Surprise surprise it’s grey cloudy and more like a cold March day here in North West England, but at least it’s sunny inside with a bright yellow seasonal table with a hand dyed play-silk and alder cone bees, all crafts from my Waldorf Magic guide to Bees 🐝 (in my store click on the link in my bio)

I honestly love bees so I cannot wait to really get stuck into this months theme with the little one.

I’ve had a few questions about Waldorf Magic this month, it’s not a curriculum, and it’s not just for children (there are plenty of crafts adults could enjoy too, such as things like this to decorate the home) it does have song and movement cards and a short story as well as recipes for a themed tea party. The idea is that is generally reflects what young children (Kindy age 0-7) may see around them in nature this time of year and reflects that. Providing a gentle rhythm and play and craft based exploration of the topic.

There are a whole host of guides online, so if you are new please check them out!

Wishing you all a buzzing day! (Here in Manchester that is actually a way to say amazing - no wonder our cities emblem is the worker bee 😂😂🐝)

Much love all

A big thank you to my mum who bought me a frame today for this beautiful print out from @thelivingheartco

I absolutely am in love with it, and with the huge waves of love, of sacrifice and compassion that come from it. I also love how more culturally representative it is of the Holy Family. I love classical art, they are often a depiction of someone’s personal idea of divinity and thats a beautiful thing to behold, but they are often not truthfully representative of race and culture and these are probably the reasons I don’t generally have religious art around my home.

This small space, provides a little reminder through the day of my faith, and of the sacrifice, love and compassion I can pour out everyday to those around me knowing in prayer it will always be replenished.

This print is one of many beautiful prints and resources from the @catholicmombundle which is available only until midnight tonight! Click on the link in my bio to purchase!

Have a blessed weekend everybody. If you have any questions about the bundle please please do reach out and send me a message!

Elderflower and Mint Cordial 🥂

Today we made our first batch of Elderflower Cordial, and I thought I would try something new and add some mint to the mix. It worked wonderfully and this cordial is a lighter, slightly less tangy version of my usual elderflower cordial, with a fresh taste of summer. Funny the elderflower doesn’t seem as strong as it did last year though and I am putting that down to the lack of sun which often effects such things.

To make around 1.25 Litre you will need:

-25 large Elderflower heads

- 1 large handful of mint, I had a mix of normal mint and spearmint

- 500g sugar more or less to taste

- Two large or four small lemons

- 1 tsp Citric acid.

- Cheesecloth for straining

- Sterilised bottles

Shake the elderflower heads to remove any bugs, remove them from the larger stalks and place in the pan . Grate the zest of the lemons and add to the flower heads then quarter the lemons, squeezing in the juice and add to the mix. Add your mint stems and leaves. Add 1.5litre of water and bring to the boil, simmer and stir for around ten minutes before turning the heat off, cover and leave to steep for 24 hours.

After 24hours, place your bottles in the oven to sterilise and then strain the liquid through the cheesecloth, discard the pulp.

Place the liquid back in the pan and slowly add the sugar, dissolving it and tasting as you go, some like a tang others like it a little sweeter.

Bring to the boil for a couple of minutes before decanting into sterilised bottles with a funnel.

Keep refrigerated (will keep for 2-3 months in the fridge) dilute one part cordial to two parts ice cold water and serve with a slice of lime and spring of mint!

Thanks to @marksandspencer for the amazing bottles which I have reused for this make (they did ironically contain sparkling Elderflower)
