‘O star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy perfect light’
I remember as a child when I would look out of my bedroom window on Christmas Eve..not looking for Father Christmas but pressing my forehead against the cold glass to try and catch a glimpse of the Christmas Star….
The notion of Father Christmas and his sleigh never really caught my attention at Christmas. It was magical yes…but for me the magic and wonder of Christmas was of something I more mystical than that. A star..a guiding light, and a baby, born that special night. How wonderful I always thought that a child be so loved, so wanted, so waited for, so celebrated. This is the magic of Christmas for me…a magic we all feel with the longing for and birth of our own children.
In this months issue of the Handcrafted Year, you can make this wonderful wet felted mat and Christmas Eve Star.
I honestly can’t wait for advent, for my children to choose a place to put this mat, and to journey slowly and intentionally through advent to Christmas!
