The whole unfiltered blog

The little ones sleeping area in our room is almost done. The bedside table (a stool with a rattan tray) was my focus today.

I painted a little verse which sits next to her bed, next to her Himalayan Salt Angel Nightlight and her Bedtime Gnome. The beautiful frame which I originally bought from @myriadnaturaltoys was for the seasonal table, but I thought it needed a new home here.

The verse is from my Day of Song free download and reads

“ Close your eyes now and go to sleep,

dream sweet dreams, my darling sleep.

Close your eyes and rest your head,

Dream of our day warm in your bed.

Dream your sweet dreams now,

Under a star covered sky.

The moon is your guide now, till morning is nigh.

Good night my sweetheart,

Kisses on your head.

See you in the morning,

For a new day ahead.”

Just a mobile to finish now and then it’s done!

Fairy cottages 🧚‍♀️

I always talk about the humble cardboard box as one of the best open ended play items around.

Today I received a delivery of coconut shells for a cool felting project I’m wanting to work on. They came in the most ridiculous huge box long and thin, not suitable for the usual car or sled the little one likes to make.

Seeing the box I immediately thought of a row of cottages, and so drew some simple doors and windows in different shapes and sizes.

It’s become a bit of a project this afternoon and myself and the little one really collaborated bringing the little fairy street to life with colour, we used crayon and oil pastels.

I was going to cut out the windows and add some mini curtains, but you know what it does not need it, the little one has loved going through her toys finding people who are suitable for the different door sizes.

An afternoon well spent. Have you done anything lately with a box?

So last week I was scrolling as you do and came across a lovely post from suzie Grieves aka @foragedfibres ... Ivy weaving.

I’ve always wanted to weave, but one thing and another comes up and I don’t get the materials and forget about it until the next basket inspiration comes along and that process of yay I’m going to do this...then forgetting and getting sidetracked starts again.

Well not this time! Ivy is something I have PLENTY of - it’s practically bursting out of my back garden. So last week myself and the children cut down the ivy, stripped it of its leaves and using Suzies lovely images as a visual guide I set to work.

Now this basket isn’t technically perfect by any means, it’s raggedy, it’s rough around the edges and that’s what I love about it! A basket that could have been made by some magical woodland fairies. The little one has certainly been taken by it and it’s started that fire of learning for myself and the children.

I have cut down more ivy - and I plan to make another this week. The older two are making fruit bowls (which we are finding our way through) and I’m going to be making a frame for the little one to weave with. I’ll photograph how I make it for those wanting a little more of a prompt, but if you want to have a go with some local ivy then head over to @foragedfibres (I’ll pop the post in my stories on Instagram and highlights) and have a go. I advise you to soak any of the cuttings first to soften them, they will be less likely to tear and break that way, a lot of mine as new growth so really supple to use.

Thank you Suzie for the inspiration
